What Does Malachi 1:11 Mean?
Against the backdrop of stale worship at the temple, God lifts His eyes to a vast horizon. From sunrise to sunset, across every land, His name will be great, and pure offerings will rise to Him among peoples who once knew Him not. The worship His own priests withhold will one day pour from the ends of the earth.
This is a breathtaking promise of a worldwide community of worshipers. God's name was not destined to stay confined to one nation or one altar; it would become great 'in every place.' The rebuke of Israel's coldness becomes the seedbed for a global hope, a foretaste of the day when men and women of every people would call upon His name. In Christ this promise opened wide, as the good news went out to all nations and pure worship began to ascend from every corner of the earth, just as God said it would.
