For those who fear God's name, the Sun of righteousness will rise with healing, and they will go forth joyful and free.

What Does Malachi 4:2 Mean?

After the furnace comes the dawn. 'Unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.' To the faithful, the coming day is not fire but sunrise, a glorious light bringing healing wherever its rays, its 'wings,' reach. And the response is unrestrained joy: they 'go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall,' like young animals released from the pen, leaping in the open field.

This is one of the most radiant promises in all the prophets. The same day that burns the proud brings warmth, light, and healing to those who revere God. In 'the Sun of righteousness' Christians behold the coming of Christ Himself, the light who rises with healing for His people. The picture of calves bursting from the stall captures the pure gladness of the redeemed, free and full of life. For all who fear His name, the future is not darkness but sunrise, not judgment but healing, and the joy of running free in the light of God.

In the Original Language
