What Does Micah 3:5 Mean?
The Lord turns to the false prophets, who lead the people astray. They cry 'Peace' to anyone who fills their mouths with food, but declare war on whoever fails to pay. Their message is bought and sold, shaped entirely by self-interest.
A word from God cannot be purchased; the moment truth is for hire, it ceases to be truth. These prophets serve their appetites, not the Lord, and so they comfort the wrong people and attack the faithful. The verse warns against any voice whose message bends to the wallet, and it commends the costly courage of speaking truth that pays nothing in return.
