Paul commends Epaphroditus, a beloved coworker, whom he is sending back to the Philippians.

What Does Philippians 2:25 Mean?

Paul introduces another faithful man. He has thought it necessary to send back Epaphroditus, whom he honors with a string of warm titles: his brother, companion in labor, fellowsoldier, and the Philippians' own messenger who ministered to Paul's needs.

Each title reveals the depth of their bond. Epaphroditus is family, a fellow worker, and a comrade in the spiritual battle, sent originally by the Philippians to care for Paul on their behalf. The piling up of affectionate descriptions shows how dearly Paul regarded him. Here is another portrait of the selfless service Paul has been commending, a man who left home to minister to an imprisoned apostle. The Christian life is filled with such partnerships, and Paul takes care to honor those who serve faithfully, ensuring that Epaphroditus returns home held in high esteem.
