Paul's deepest desire is to know Christ, the power of his resurrection, and the sharing of his sufferings.

What Does Philippians 3:10 Mean?

Paul opens his heart's supreme ambition: that I may know him. Not know about Christ, but know him personally, and with him the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being shaped into the likeness of his death.

This is the goal that makes all loss worthwhile. Paul yearns for an ever-deeper knowledge of Christ that embraces both glory and pain, both resurrection power that lifts and the fellowship of suffering that draws him close to his Lord. He does not want only the comfort of Christ but the whole of him, including the path through death to life. To be conformed to Christ's death is to share his self-giving and to be remade in his image. This intimate knowing of Christ, in his power and his sufferings alike, is the treasure for which Paul counted all things loss.
