What Does Philippians 3:16 Mean?
Paul adds a steadying word. Whatever measure of truth they have already attained, let them live up to it, walking by the same rule and minding the same thing, holding fast to what they have received.
Growth in understanding is good, but Paul reminds them not to neglect the ground already gained. They are to live out faithfully what they already know, walking in step together. This guards against two errors: despising the progress made and fracturing into division. The call is to consistency and unity, to keep walking by the truth they share rather than waiting for perfect knowledge before they obey. Faithfulness with what we have prepares us for more. Paul wants a community moving together, ordering their lives by the gospel they already hold, of one mind as they press on.
