Decorah Lutheran Church

About this church

Decorah Lutheran Church worships in person and on YouTube at 9 a.m. every Sunday, with Communion celebrated weekly. Parking is available in the church's south-side lot, a neighboring school lot, and along the street. The congregation belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and describes its life through grace, service, community, worship, education, and outreach. Founded in 1863, its enduring mission is to accept God's call to teach faithfully, serve, share God's gifts, and invite people without a church home into the gospel and community.

Faith formation spans young children through adults. Registration materials cover a Sunday education hour for children age three through fifth grade, separate groups for grades five and six and grades six through eight, high-school youth, Confirmation, and adult education. Music is another route into church life: the adult choir contributes special music and rehearses Wednesday evenings from September through May. A monthly Prayer Shawl Ministry gathers knitters and crocheters who pray as they make shawls for people needing care. For a first visit, the 9 a.m. service, weekly Communion, parking choices, and livestream are stable planning details; school-year classes, choir rehearsals, and the monthly shawl group should be checked against the current calendar.
