Those who live this way will be given a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of Christ.

What Does 2 Peter 1:11 Mean?

Peter completes the thought of verse 10 with a promise of reward. For those who pursue these qualities, an "entrance" into the everlasting kingdom will be "ministered abundantly" — supplied richly and generously. The same generosity with which we are to add virtues (verse 5) is the generosity with which heaven welcomes us in.

The Christian's diligence is not earning salvation but preparing for a lavish homecoming. The kingdom belongs to "our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ," and it is everlasting — the destination toward which the whole letter points. Peter pictures not a grudging admittance scraped past the gate, but an abundant welcome, doors flung wide. A life of growing godliness has this hope before it: not merely arrival, but a glad reception into the eternal reign of the One who saved us. The end of the path is Christ's own kingdom, entered with joy.

In the Original Language

aionios (αἰώνιος), 'everlasting' — eternal, belonging to the age to come; describing the unending kingdom of Christ.
