At last the heir is named: Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan, grandson of Saul. Brought into the royal presence, he falls on his face -- a grandson of the rival king lying prostrate before the new one, expecting perhaps judgment. David speaks his name, and he answers as a servant awaiting the king's word.
