What Does Acts 15:40 Mean?
Paul chooses Silas — the trusted Jerusalem prophet who had stayed on in Antioch (15:34) — and sets out, the brethren commending the travelers to the grace of God, just as the church had done at the first sending (Acts 14:26).
A new partnership is born out of a painful parting; Silas will share the midnight songs of Paul in prison and stand beside him in his letters (16:25; 1 Thessalonians 1:1). Notice what the church entrusts them to — not strategy or safety, but the grace of God, the very grace the council named as the ground of salvation (15:11).
