What Does Acts 22:23 Mean?
Luke paints the riot in three strokes: voices lifted, garments flung, dust thrown toward heaven. To the crowd Paul has spoken blasphemy, and the scene recalls the fury that once killed Stephen (Acts 7:54-58), with Paul now standing where Stephen stood.
The dust they threw answered nothing Paul had said. Rage can feel like righteousness while refusing to weigh a single word, but the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God (James 1:20).
