What Does Acts 22:24 Mean?
The commander understood little of the Aramaic speech; he only saw a city in convulsion. Roman custom offered a brutal shortcut: interrogate the prisoner under the scourge, a whip laced with bone and metal that maimed and sometimes killed.
Paul now faces the lash his Lord once bore (John 19:1), for the servant is not above his master (John 15:20). Yet providence is at work inside the fortress as surely as on the Damascus road.
