What Does Acts 8:12 Mean?
The long spell breaks. The Samaritans turn from years of fascination with Simon to faith in what Philip preaches — the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ — and they seal that faith in baptism, men and women alike.
Luke names the content of the preaching: God's reign, and the Person through whom it comes. And he notes who responded — both men and women, each one hearing and believing. In the kingdom there are no spectators and no second-hand citizens; the word comes to every listener with his or her own name on it, and baptism welcomes each one.
