What Does Daniel 3:25 Mean?
Where there were three, the king now sees four, loose, walking freely, untouched by the flames. The bonds are gone, the fire has no power over them, and a fourth figure walks among them whose "form is like the Son of God." A divine presence has joined the faithful in the heart of the furnace, and the fire that should have killed them has become the place of their freedom.
This is the heart of the chapter: God's servants are not delivered from the fire but met within it. Christians have long seen in this fourth figure a foreshadowing of the Lord who shares His people's suffering and walks with them through it. He does not always remove the furnace, but He enters it.
