What Does Daniel 6:10 Mean?
A law has just been signed making prayer to anyone but the king a capital crime, and Daniel's response is to do exactly what he has always done. He goes home, opens his windows toward Jerusalem, kneels three times a day, and gives thanks "as he did aforetime." That last phrase is the key: this was not a defiant new gesture staged for the moment, but the steady continuation of a lifelong habit. The threat did not start his praying, and the threat would not stop it.
Several quiet details reveal his heart. The open windows toward Jerusalem turn his prayer toward the place of God's promises, keeping his hope anchored beyond Babylon.
