Esther 6:1 Meaning and Explanation

On that very night, the night between Esther's two banquets, the king cannot sleep. Of all the remedies for sleeplessness, he calls for the book of records to be read aloud. A wakeful king, a dusty chronicle, an ordinary remedy, and yet everything turns on this small, unplanned moment.

The narrator states it plainly and lets the wonder speak for itself. Nothing is called a miracle; a king simply cannot sleep. But the timing is exquisite, falling on the one night when Mordecai's forgotten deed must be remembered. The hidden hand of providence does not part the heavens here; it merely keeps a man awake. The greatest deliverances often turn on the quietest coincidences.
