What Does Galatians 3:1 Mean?
Paul turns from his own story to a direct, anguished appeal. He calls them foolish and asks who has cast a spell over them, for they are turning from the truth they once embraced. Something has clouded their judgment, and Paul names it bluntly.
He reminds them how plainly the message came: Christ crucified had been set before their eyes, as if painted in living color. They had seen the cross clearly proclaimed. To drift now toward law-righteousness is to turn from that vivid picture, and Paul cannot understand the turning.
