What Does Hebrews 2:9 Mean?
What we do not yet see in humanity at large, we do see in Jesus. He entered our lowliness, made "a little lower than the angels" for one purpose: "the suffering of death." The path to His crowning ran straight through the cross. Now He is crowned with glory and honor.
And His death was for others -- "that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man." He fully drank the cup of death so that all might be spared its ultimate sting. Here the chapter's heart appears: the One who shares our nature also bears our death, and His exaltation opens the way for ours. We fix our eyes not on our failures but on Him.
