What Does Job 11:14 Mean?
Zophar continues his summons to repentance. If there is iniquity clinging to Job's hand, let him put it far away, and let no wickedness dwell within his tents or household. The picture is of cleansing both the self and the home, refusing to harbor evil under one's own roof.
Again the counsel is sound even where the accusation is unfair. God calls all who would draw near to turn from sin, to put wrong far from their hands and refuse to give it lodging in their lives. Repentance is not only sorrow but separation, a deliberate distancing from what offends God. The tragedy is that Zophar presses this on a man already blameless. Yet the word itself stands: where evil is found, it must be cast out, for the Lord blesses the dwelling that will not make room for wickedness.
