What Does Job 22:12 Mean?
Eliphaz lifts his eyes upward, reminding Job that God dwells in the height of heaven, higher even than the most distant stars. He is building toward an accusation that Job has presumed too much about a God so far above him.
The picture itself is glorious and true. God is exalted above all His works, transcendent in majesty and beyond our full comprehension. Yet the same Scripture that proclaims His height also proclaims His nearness. The God enthroned above the stars stoops to hear the cry of the lowly. His exaltation does not make Him distant or indifferent; it makes His tender attention to us all the more astonishing.
