What Does Job 41:14 Mean?
The mouth is imagined as a fortified gate, doors that no one can force, guarded round about by terrible teeth. The picture is of a stronghold sealed against every intruder.
Here the creature's menace is set plainly before Job, not to torment him but to right-size his understanding. We stand small before the powers God has made, and smaller still before God Himself. Yet this same Lord opens doors no man can open and shuts what none can open, and the servant who fears Him need fear no other gate, in this life or beyond it.
