What Does John 1:40 Mean?
The evangelist now names one of the two: Andrew, introduced as Simon Peter's brother even though Peter has not yet entered the story. The first readers knew Peter's name well; John reminds them that before Peter ever met Jesus, his quieter brother was already there.
Andrew appears three times in this Gospel, and each time he is bringing someone to Jesus: his brother, a boy with loaves and fishes, a group of seeking Greeks.
