What Does John 11:28 Mean?
Her confession made, Martha goes for Mary, speaking 'secretly' — perhaps to give her sister a private moment with Jesus before the crowd of mourners follows (v. 31), and mindful of the hostility of the authorities (v. 57). Her message is two short facts: he is here, and he asks for you.
'The Master is come, and calleth for thee' is the gospel in a single domestic sentence. Christ does not only receive those who run to him, like Martha; he sends for the one still sitting in the dark house. Sometimes the kindest ministry is Martha's here: to go to a grieving heart and whisper that the Lord is near and wants them.
