What Does John 12:9 Mean?
Passover pilgrims were already streaming into Jerusalem, and word travels the two miles to Bethany quickly. The crowd wants to see the miracle worker, and the man who spent four days in a tomb and walked out of it alive.
Lazarus says nothing anywhere in this Gospel, yet he draws people toward Jesus simply by being alive. A life visibly touched by Christ is its own testimony. Curiosity is not yet faith, but it is often the road there, and Jesus does not turn the curious away. Many in this very crowd will wave palm branches the next morning.
