What Does John 13:32 Mean?
The saying turns like a hinge: glory given becomes glory returned. The Son glorifies God by obedience even unto death; God will answer by glorifying the Son "in himself," receiving him into the glory he had with the Father before the world was (John 17:5), and "straightway," for the cross, the empty tomb, and the ascension stand only days apart.
The cross will look like utter shame; heaven has already named it glory and set the answer in motion. Humiliation and exaltation are one unbroken arc in the path of Jesus: obedient unto death, wherefore God also hath highly exalted him (Philippians 2:8-9).
