No one can come to Jesus except the Father draws them, yet all so drawn will be raised at the last day.

Context

Jesus explains the role of the Father in bringing people to faith, shifting the focus from human ability to divine grace.

What Does John 6:44 Mean?

'No man can come to me.' The word is strong: no one, it is not possible, there is no exception. The human will, on its own, is insufficient. We cannot simply decide to come to Jesus the way we might decide to walk across a room. Something must happen in us before coming is possible. And that something is the Father's drawing. To be drawn is not to be dragged unwillingly; it is to be pulled by love, by beauty, by truth recognized at last. The Father does the work of opening eyes, softening hearts, awakening hunger.

Yet this is not predestination that cancels human choice. Rather, it is grace that makes choice possible. The Father's drawing creates the conditions in which genuine human faith becomes real. And what does the Father draw people to? To Jesus. And what does Jesus promise those drawn by the Father? Resurrection on the last day. There is no separation between coming to Jesus now and being raised by him at the end. The promise holds throughout time.

Application

Rather than spending energy on whether you are among the chosen, Jesus invites you to respond to the drawing you are already experiencing. Where do you feel the Father's quiet pull, and what would it mean to surrender to it?
