What Does Joshua 21:27 Mean?
The account moves to the Gershonites and to the lands east of the Jordan. Golan, in the high country of Bashan, becomes the city of refuge for that whole eastern region, with another town beside it.
Even far across the Jordan, beyond the river that bounded the promised land proper, a city of mercy is set. The fleeing manslayer in the east had a refuge as surely as those in the west. God's provision of safety did not stop at any border; wherever His people lived, a place of rescue was near.
