What Does Judges 11:27 Mean?
Jephthah closes his case. He has done no wrong; it is Ammon that wrongs Israel by warring against it. Having exhausted reasoned argument, he appeals to the highest court of all: the LORD the Judge, asking God himself to decide between the two peoples.
To call upon God as Judge is to rest the outcome in righteous hands. Jephthah does not trust merely his own argument or his own sword; he commits the cause to the One who judges justly. When we have sought peace and spoken truth, we too can leave the verdict with the Lord.
