After all the family lists, the story begins to move — and it starts on a sad day, the last day of King Saul.
Today's Story
There was a big battle, and it did not go well for Israel. King Saul and his sons fought hard, but the enemy was too strong. Saul died in the battle that day, and his sons died too. It was a very sad day.
The Bible tells us something important about why things ended this way for Saul. For a long time, Saul had stopped listening to God. He did what he wanted instead of what God said. He even asked the wrong people for help instead of asking God.
Listening to God is not just a rule — it keeps us close to the One who loves us most and knows what is best.
But the story does not end in sadness. God had already chosen a new leader, a shepherd boy who loved Him with all his heart. His name was David. God was about to give him the whole kingdom.
Even after a sad day, God was making a way for something good and new.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- When is it hard for you to listen and obey? What makes it hard?
- Saul stopped listening to God. Why do you think listening to God helps us?
- God already had a good plan ready with David. How does it help to know God has good plans, even on hard days?
