After many years away from home, God's people came back — and this chapter tells about the helpers who took care of God's special house.
Today's Story
God's people had been far away from home for a long, long time. Then God brought them back to their own land, to their own towns and houses. What a happy day!
This chapter lists the families who came home. And it tells about something special: the people who helped take care of God's house, the place where everyone came to worship Him.
Everybody had a job. Some were gatekeepers who stood at the doors to keep the house safe. Some watched over the rooms and the treasures. Some baked the special bread. Some mixed the sweet-smelling spices. Some even sang and made music all day and all night!
No job was too small. Opening a door, baking bread, singing a song — God saw every helper and was pleased. Each one mattered, and each one helped God's house run.
You can be a helper for God too. When you help at home, you are doing something God loves to see.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- What is a job YOU could do to help around the house today?
- In God's house, the gatekeepers, the bakers, and the singers all mattered. Why do you think God cares about even the small jobs?
- How does it feel when you help and someone says “thank you”?
