This chapter is another part of God's big family tree — this time, the family of Benjamin.
Today's Story
Here is another long list of names. All of these people came from a man named Benjamin, who was one of Israel's sons.
The list goes on and on — fathers and sons, family after family, town after town. Most of the names are ones we have never heard before. But every name belonged to a real person God made and loved.
Near the end of the list, one name pops up that we WILL hear again: Saul. He would grow up to become the very first king of God's people. But before he was a king, he was just a boy in a family, with a grandpa and a dad and a name on a list.
Even the most important people started out small, as part of a family. God was watching over each one, getting His story ready, year after year.
God writes down names because people matter to Him. You matter to Him too — today, right now, just as you are.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Have you ever been picked to be on a team or in a group? How did it feel to belong?
- Saul started out as just a boy on a family list before he became a king. What do you think you might grow up to do?
- God knows the name of every person who ever lived. Why do you think names are so important to Him?
