1 Chronicles 14 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

David is the king now, and his family is growing. But before he does anything big, David has one good habit — he asks God first.

Today's Story

Things were going well for King David. A faraway king named Hiram even sent workers and cedar wood to build David a fine palace. David's family grew bigger, with sons and daughters. David could tell that God had made him king and was blessing him.

Then one day, an enemy army marched out to fight against David. What did David do? He didn't just charge ahead on his own. First, he stopped and asked God. “Should I go?” he prayed. “Will You help me?”

God answered, “Go. I will hand them over to you.” So David went, and God helped him, just as He promised.

A little while later, the very same enemy came back again. Now, David already knew he could win — but he didn't skip his good habit. He asked God again. And again God showed him exactly what to do.

David never thought he was too strong or too smart to need God. Every single time, he asked first — and every single time, God led him.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. When you have a big choice to make, who do you usually ask for help first?
  2. David asked God even the second time, when he already thought he knew the answer. Why is it good to keep asking God instead of just guessing?
  3. What is one thing this week you could stop and pray about before you decide what to do?
