God offers young King Solomon anything he wants - anything! What Solomon asks for might surprise you.
Today's Story
One night God spoke to Solomon in a dream. “Ask for whatever you want,” God said, “and I will give it to you.”
Anything! Solomon could have asked for mountains of gold, or a long life, or to beat all his enemies. But Solomon was young, and he felt the weight of leading a whole nation. So he asked for something better. “Please give me a wise and understanding heart,” he said, “so I can tell right from wrong and lead Your people well.”
God was so pleased! “Because you asked for wisdom instead of riches or a long life, I'll give you a wise heart like no one has ever had - and I'll give you riches and honor too.”
Soon Solomon's wisdom was put to the test. Two women came arguing over one baby, each saying, “He's mine!” Solomon had an idea to find the truth. He watched to see which woman would give up the baby rather than let him be hurt - because that was the real, loving mother. And he gave the baby to her.
Everyone was amazed. God had given Solomon exactly what he asked for.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- If God said “ask for anything,” what would you be tempted to ask for? What do you think would be the best thing to ask for?
- Solomon wanted wisdom to help other people, not just himself. How could being wise help the people around you?
- Wisdom means knowing the right thing to do. When is a time you need God's help to know what's right?
