1 Kings 6 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

The big day arrives: Solomon begins building the most beautiful building in the world - a house for God.

Today's Story

At last, the building began. For seven whole years, workers built God's temple with the greatest care.

It was beautiful. The walls were lined with sweet-smelling cedar wood, carved with flowers and palm trees and angels. And then - can you imagine? - they covered the inside with pure gold, so the whole room glowed and shimmered. Even the floor was gold.

It was so quiet and careful that no hammers or chisels were heard at the building site; the stones were shaped somewhere else and fit together perfectly. Everything was done gently, beautifully, the very best they could do.

While they built, God gave Solomon a wonderful promise: “I will live among My people Israel. I will never leave them.”

That was the whole point of the beautiful temple. It wasn't just gold and carvings. It was a sign that the great God of heaven wanted to live close to His people.
