1 Kings 7 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Building God's temple needed someone with very special skills. Meet the master craftsman who filled it with beautiful things.

Today's Story

The temple needed more than walls. It needed beautiful things inside it - and that took a special kind of helper.

So Solomon sent for a man named Huram, who was an expert at working with bronze. The Bible says Huram was filled with skill and understanding to do every kind of bronze work. God had given him a wonderful talent, and he had practiced it his whole life.

Huram made amazing things. He made two giant pillars to stand at the temple doorway, taller than a house. He made a huge round bowl, as big as a little pool, resting on twelve bronze oxen, so the priests could wash and be clean. He made stands and bowls and shovels, all shining and beautiful.

Solomon was the king and Huram was the craftsman. Each one had a different gift - and the temple needed both. God gives different people different skills, and when they all use them, something beautiful gets built.

Talk About It

  1. Huram was great at one special thing. What is something you are good at, or want to get better at?
  2. The king and the craftsman both had different gifts. Why is it good that not everyone is good at the same things?
  3. How could you use something you're good at to help your family or church?
