When two people are about to have a big fight, one wise woman steps in - and shows us the power of gentle words.
Today's Story
There was a rich man named Nabal who was rude and selfish. David's men had been kind and helpful to him, so David sent a friendly message asking if Nabal could share a little food. But Nabal answered with mean, insulting words. “Why should I give you anything?”
David was so angry he wanted to march over and pay Nabal back. He was about to do something he would really regret.
But Nabal had a wise wife named Abigail. The moment she heard what had happened, she sprang into action. She loaded up donkeys with bread, fruit, and good things to eat, and hurried out to meet David before it was too late.
When she found him, she got down low and spoke gently. “Please don't do this,” she said. “Don't carry a load of regret. Let God take care of it.”
Her calm, kind words melted David's anger away. “Thank God He sent you to stop me!” David said. “Bless you for your good sense.” One wise woman with gentle words had turned a fight into peace.
