2 Chronicles 6 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God's glory has filled the temple. Now King Solomon kneels down in front of everyone to pray one of the most beautiful prayers in the whole Bible.

Today's Story

The whole nation was gathered at the brand-new temple. King Solomon stood up where everyone could see him. First he thanked God out loud for keeping every single promise He had made.

Then Solomon did something humble. In front of all the people, he knelt down. He spread his hands up toward heaven, and he began to pray.

“LORD, there is no God anywhere like You,” he prayed. “You keep Your promises, and You show Your love to Your people.”

Then Solomon looked up in wonder. “But will You really live with people here on earth? The highest heavens cannot hold You — how could this temple?”

Solomon asked God for one big thing: “When Your people pray toward this place — when they are sorry, when they need help, when they are far away and remember You — please hear them. Please listen, and please forgive.”

Solomon knew the temple could not hold God. But he knew God's ears were always open to His children's prayers.

Talk About It

  1. Solomon knelt down to pray in front of everybody. Where do you like to pray, and what does your body do when you talk to God?
  2. Solomon asked God to listen and forgive whenever the people prayed. How does it feel to know God hears your prayers, no matter where you are?
  3. Solomon said there is no God anywhere like ours. What is one thing that makes God so special to you?
