A whole city is hungry and out of hope. But God is about to change everything overnight - and the good news comes from the most surprising place.
Today's Story
Times were very hard in the city. There was almost no food left, and everyone's tummy was empty. A big enemy army had camped outside the walls, and the people felt stuck and afraid.
God's helper Elisha said something that sounded impossible: “By this time tomorrow, there will be plenty of food for everyone!” People could hardly believe it.
Now, four hungry men sat by the city gate. “Why just sit here?” they said. “Let's go to the enemy camp. Maybe they'll give us food.” So off they went in the evening light.
But when they reached the camp - nobody was there! God had made the enemy army hear a great rumbling sound, like a huge army coming, and they had jumped up and run away, leaving everything behind. Tents full of bread. Sacks of grain. Plenty to eat - just waiting!
The four men ate and ate. Then they stopped. “This isn't right. This is a day of good news, and we're keeping it to ourselves! We have to go tell everyone!” So they ran back and shouted the good news through the gate. And it was true - the very next day, the whole hungry city had more than enough.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Have you ever felt stuck, like nothing good could happen? What would you say to a friend who feels that way today?
- The four men just couldn't keep the good news to themselves. What is some good news about God that you'd want to share?
- God turned an empty city into a full one overnight. What does that show us about what God can do?
