2 Samuel 21 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

King David is older now, and the giants have come back. This time, David doesn't face them alone — his brave friends stand with him.

Today's Story

Long ago, David had faced a giant named Goliath all by himself, with just a sling and his trust in God. But now David was older, and a new group of giant warriors — relatives of Goliath — came to make trouble.

One day, in the middle of a battle, David grew tired and weak. One of the giant fighters saw his chance and came after the king. David was in danger!

But David wasn't alone. A brave soldier named Abishai rushed in and stood between David and the giant, and rescued the king just in time.

After that, David's men made a loving rule. “You're too precious to us, King David,” they said. “You don't have to fight the giants by yourself anymore. We'll stand with you.” And one by one, David's mighty warriors went out and bravely defeated the rest of the giants.

The young David fought alone. The older David had a whole team who loved him. Both times, God gave the victory — and this time, He did it through friends standing together.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. When David was tired, his friend stepped in to help. Who steps in to help you when you're worn out?
  2. David's men said, “You don't have to do this alone.” When is it good to ask for help instead of doing everything yourself?
  3. How can you be a good teammate to your family or friends this week?
