Little by little, David's kingdom is growing. And when something wrong happens, David shows everyone where he stands.
Today's Story
Day by day, things were getting better for David. The Bible says it simply: David grew stronger and stronger. God was building David's kingdom, slowly and surely, just like He promised.
One day a powerful commander named Abner decided to stop fighting against David and join his side instead. David welcomed him kindly and made a friendly agreement with him. Things were looking up!
But then one of David's own men did a wrong thing and hurt Abner. It was wrong, and David was very upset. He said clearly, “I had nothing to do with this. This was not right.”
To show how sad he was, David walked behind Abner's funeral and cried in front of everyone. He would not pretend a wrong thing was okay, even when it might have helped him.
And everyone watching understood: this king grew strong the honest way — by trusting God, not by cheating or being cruel.
