Saul is the scariest enemy of Jesus' followers — until a blinding light on the road changes him into the greatest friend the good news ever had.
Today's Story
Saul did NOT like Jesus' followers. He wanted to stop them, and he traveled to faraway cities to arrest people who loved Jesus. He was their scariest enemy.
One day, Saul was on the road to a city called Damascus. Suddenly a light from heaven flashed all around him, brighter than the sun! Saul fell to the ground.
A voice said, “Saul, Saul, why are you fighting against Me?” Saul trembled. “Who are You, Lord?” “I am Jesus,” the voice said. “Now get up and go into the city, and you'll be told what to do.”
When Saul stood up, he couldn't see! His friends led him by the hand into the city. For three days he couldn't see, and he didn't eat — he just prayed.
Then God sent a brave man named Ananias to help Saul. Ananias was scared (Saul was the enemy!), but he obeyed God. He put his hands on Saul and said, “Brother Saul, Jesus sent me so you can see again.” Right away, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes — and he could see!
Saul was completely changed. The enemy became a friend. Right away he began to tell everyone, “Jesus is the Son of God!” Later he was called Paul, and he became one of the greatest tellers of the good news the world has ever known.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Saul was Jesus' enemy, but Jesus changed his heart completely. Do you think anyone is “too far gone” for God's love? (The answer is no!)
- Ananias was scared to help Saul, but he obeyed God anyway. When is it hard to be kind to someone who seems scary or mean?
- Saul went from fighting Jesus to telling everyone about Him. What's the biggest change Jesus could make in someone?
