Deuteronomy 12 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Moses tells the people how to worship God in their brand-new home — and it's full of joy!

Today's Story

God's people were almost home. Moses wanted to teach them how to worship God in the new land.

“The people who lived here before worshiped fake gods,” Moses said. “They had little statues on every hill and under every tree. But you belong to the real God, the One who made the whole world. Leave the fake gods behind.”

“God will choose one special place for you to come and worship Him,” Moses said. “Bring your gifts there. Bring the good things from your fields and your animals. And here is the best part…”

Moses smiled. “When you come to worship God, be happy! Eat together. Sing together. Thank God with your whole family for all the good things He has given you. Worship isn't sad or scary — it's a celebration!”

The people could picture it already: everyone together, full tummies, glad hearts, thanking the God who loved them and brought them home.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What makes you feel happy and want to celebrate? Did you know we can feel that same kind of happy when we worship God?
  2. Moses said worship is a glad thing, not a sad thing. What is one way your family likes to worship God together?
  3. God told His people to bring Him their best gifts. What is one good thing you could give back to God — maybe a song, a thank-you, or your help?
