Deuteronomy 13 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Moses is talking to God's people before they go to their new home. Today he gives them a way to stay close to God, no matter who tries to pull them away.

Today's Story

Moses loved God's people. He wanted them to be happy in their new home. So he gave them an important reminder.

“One day,” Moses said, “someone might try to talk you into following a different god. Maybe a stranger. Maybe even a friend. They might say, ‘Come on! Let's go love something else instead of the Lord.’”

Moses said, “Don't listen to that. Don't go.” Why? Because the Lord is the one true God. He is the one who rescued them and loved them and cared for them every single day. No one else had done that. No one else could.

So Moses said the most important thing of all: “Follow the Lord your God. Love Him. Hold on to Him tight, and do what He says.”

It was like holding your grown-up's hand in a big, busy place. Lots of things might try to pull you this way and that. But you hold on tight to the one who loves you and keeps you safe. That's exactly what God's people were to do with Him.
