Deuteronomy 14 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Moses keeps reminding God's people who they are. Today he tells them something wonderful — they belong to God in a very special way.

Today's Story

Moses had something happy to say to God's people. “You are the children of the Lord your God,” he told them. “Out of everyone in the whole world, God chose you to be His own treasure.”

A treasure! Like the most special thing you own — the thing you keep close and never want to lose. That's how God felt about His people.

Because they were His special children, Moses gave them some gentle rules to help them live differently from everyone else. He told them which foods to eat and which to leave alone, so they would remember every day that they belonged to God.

Then Moses told them about a happy habit. Once a year, they would bring some of the good things from their farms — their grain and fruit and animals — and have a big, joyful party to thank God. They would eat together and celebrate everything God had given them. And they were to share with people who didn't have much, so no one was left out.

Belonging to God meant living thankful, kind, and glad — all year long.
