Moses gives God's people a beautiful rule about being kind to anyone who doesn't have much.
Today's Story
Moses wanted God's people to take good care of each other — especially anyone who was poor.
So he gave them a wonderful rule. Every seven years, if a friend owed you something, you let it go. You forgave it! And if someone had been working for you to pay back what they owed, you set them free — and you didn't send them away empty. You loaded them up with good things: food, animals, gifts. You sent them off with a smile.
Moses said, “Don't be stingy. Don't close your hand tight when someone needs help. Open your hand wide!”
He made a little picture with his hands. A closed fist keeps everything in. But an open hand can give and give. God wanted His people to have open hands.
“There will always be people who need help,” Moses said. “So always be ready to share with them.” And God promised something sweet: the more they gave, the more God would bless them. You can never out-give God.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When has someone shared something with you and made your day better? How did it feel?
- Moses said to open your hand wide instead of holding it shut tight. What is something you could share or give away this week?
- God promised that the more we give, the more He blesses us. Why do you think giving makes God so happy?
