Moses is teaching God's people how to live in their new home. Today He makes rules so people will be safe and treated fairly.
Today's Story
Moses kept teaching God's people. He wanted everyone to be safe and treated the right way.
So God told them to pick out special towns. He called them safe towns. Here is why. Imagine someone was chopping wood, and the axe slipped and hurt another person. It was an accident! He never meant to do it. Back then, people might get very angry and chase him.
God said, “If you hurt someone by accident, run to a safe town.” There he would be protected until wise leaders could listen and figure out what really happened. No one was allowed to just grab him in anger. First, the truth had to come out.
Then God gave one more important rule. If someone says, “That person did something wrong!” you can't punish them on just one person's word. You need two or three honest people who all saw the same thing. That way no one gets blamed by a single lie.
God cares about being safe. God cares about being fair. And God really cares about telling the truth.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Has anyone ever blamed you for something you didn't do? How did that feel?
- God made safe towns so people would be protected. Who is someone who helps YOU feel safe?
- Why is it so important to find out the truth before we decide someone did something wrong?
