Deuteronomy 22 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Moses keeps teaching God's people how to be kind. Today's rules are all about helping the people who live around you.

Today's Story

God gave His people some simple, everyday rules — the kind you could use any old afternoon.

God said, “If you find your neighbor's sheep wandering down the road, don't just walk by! Take it home and keep it safe until your neighbor comes looking. Do the same if you find their donkey, or even their lost coat. Whatever they lost, help them get it back.”

God said, “If you see a donkey fallen down on the path, don't leave the poor thing there. Stop and help lift it up.”

And God even thought about safety. Back then, houses had flat roofs where people liked to sit. God said, “Build a little wall around the edge of your roof, so no one falls off.” God wanted people to keep their visitors safe!

Do you see the big idea hiding in all these little rules? Look out for the people around you. Don't walk past someone who needs help. Be the kind of neighbor who stops and cares.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever lost something you really loved? How did you feel? How did it feel when you found it again?
  2. God said to help lift up a fallen animal. When is a time you could stop to help someone who is “stuck”?
  3. What is one kind thing you could do for a neighbor or a friend this week?
