Moses keeps teaching God's people how to be kind. Today He shows how much God cares about people who have the least.
Today's Story
God gave His people some of the kindest rules you'll ever hear. Each one was about caring for people who didn't have much.
God said, “When someone works hard for you all day, pay them right away — the very same day, before the sun goes down. Don't make them wait! They have a family to feed, and they're counting on it.” God noticed how much that little bit of money mattered.
Then God gave a beautiful harvest rule. He said, “When you gather your grain, and you forget a bundle out in the field — leave it! Don't go back for it. When you shake the olives off your tree, don't reach for every last one. When you pick your grapes, leave some on the vine.”
Why? “Leave them,” God said, “for the people who have no field of their own — the poor, the visitor from far away, the child with no parents, the mom with no husband. Let them come and gather food too.”
Isn't that wonderful? God made sure even the people everyone else forgot would have enough to eat. God sees every single person — and He wants us to see them too.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Have you ever been really hungry and then someone shared food with you? How did it feel?
- God said to leave some food behind on purpose for people who needed it. What is something YOU could share with someone who has less?
- God notices the people other people forget. Who is someone at school or in your neighborhood who might feel forgotten — and how could you be kind to them?
