Moses kept reminding God's people how to live. Listen to how much God cares about being fair.
Today's Story
Moses gave the people more of God's good rules. They were all about one thing: being fair.
“When someone has done wrong,” God said, “don't go too far. Be fair, even then.” God did not want anyone treated worse than they should be. Fair means fair.
Then God said something that might make you smile. “When an ox is working hard, pulling and stomping the grain, let him eat a little as he goes. Don't tie his mouth shut.” God noticed even the hungry animal doing its job! He wanted the ox treated kindly.
And God cared about being honest when people bought and sold things. Back then, people weighed things on scales to know how much to pay. God said, “Use weights that are honest. Don't cheat. Don't have a heavy weight to fool people and a light one to trick them. Be true.”
Big people, small people, even the ox in the field — God wanted every one of them treated fairly. Because being fair is one of the ways we show love.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When has something felt unfair to you? How did it make you feel?
- God wanted even a hard-working ox to be treated kindly. Who is someone — or some animal — that you could be kind to today?
- Being honest means always telling the truth, even when it's hard. When is a time it takes courage to be honest?
