Deuteronomy 8 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Moses reminds the people about all the years God took care of them in the desert — and warns them not to forget Him when life gets easy.

Today's Story

“Remember,” said Moses. “Remember the long, long walk through the desert.”

The people remembered. For forty years there had been no stores, no gardens, no fridge full of food. There was just sand and sky. They had been hungry.

But every single morning, something amazing happened. When the people peeked out of their tents, the ground was covered in soft white flakes of food, like frost. They called it manna. God sent it from the sky — fresh every day. Their shoes never wore out. Their feet never got too sore. God took care of every little thing.

“Soon you'll be in your new home,” Moses went on. “You'll have houses and gardens and plenty to eat. Your tummies will be full.”

Then his voice got gentle and serious. “When that good day comes, don't forget the God who fed you. Don't say, ‘I did this all by myself.’ Remember it was God who loved you and led you the whole way. Thank Him.”

  1. What did you eat today? Who helped get that food to your table? Did you remember to say thank you?
  2. It's easy to forget God when everything is going great. What is one good thing in your life right now that you can thank Him for?
  3. God fed His people fresh manna every morning. What is something God gives you fresh every single day?
